UPEACE Centre The Hague and the Peace Palace Library have the pleasure to inform you that the 4th Lecture on Peacebuilding in Progress will take place on Wednesday January 28, 2015. Sir Kenneth Keith, Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), will deliver a speech on “International water disputes – The roles of international courts and arbitral tribunals in resolving them”. Sir Kenneth Keith has been a judge of the International Court of Justice since 2006 to 2015.

About Judge Kenneth Keith (1937)

Sir Kenneth Keith has been a judge of the International Court of Justice since 2006 to 2015. Before his election to the bench of the World Court, he had been a judge of the New Zealand Court of Appeal and Supreme Court (1996 to 2006), member and president of the New Zealand Law Commission (1986 to 1996) as well as a member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London and a judge of appeal in Samoa, the Cook Islands, Niue and Fiji. He has been an international arbitrator and earlier a member of the legal offices of the United Nations and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Judge Keith has also had a lengthy academic career as a member and dean of the law faculty of the Victoria University of Wellington.

Costs of participation are € 10; for students there is a reduced fee of € 5.

The number of seats is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 1st lecture was held by Ms Judy Cheng-Hopkins, 7 March 2014, on “Peacebuilding: What, Why and How?”

The 2nd lecture was held by Prof. Jan Pronk, 27 May 2014, on “Preventing Conflict Escalation. Hearts and Minds. Boots and Brains”.

The 3rd lecture was held by Prof. András Szöllösi-Nagy, 3 July 2014, on “Water: A Source of Conflict or a Potential Peace Builder?”.
