History of the parish
It was founded as an independant parish in 1276. In the Middel Ages the parishioners worhiped in the Great or St.James church (near the Groenmarkt), which was built in stages between about 1350 and 1492. After this church was taken by the Protestants in 1576 and Roman Catholic worship was banned, the parishioners took to worshiping in private homes and in a church-in-hiding in Oude Molstraat. This church was used until 1878 when the eXisting St.James church in Parkstraat was consecrated. In the past the St.James was the deanery church of R.C. The Hague as well as the church where services were held involving the diplomatic corps. www.stjacobus.nl.
