Stimulating the public debate
There is a lot of discussion on the topic 'Europe'. After all, the European Union is more than just a financial-economic cooperation project. The Europe Lecture aims to stimulate the public debate on Europe and tries to attract a wide audience interested in current and future developments of the European Union.
In 1993, Jacques Attali [Jacques Attali was advisor to French president Mitterrand during the eighties, and founded and led the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development early nineties. He then set up his own company in strategic consulting that specialises in corporate finance and venture capital. Prior to his public career he taught economics at university. Troughout his career Jacques Attali was and remains heavily involved with non-governmental organisations that combat poverty in the world.] delivered the first Europe Lecture. Since then, various inspiring speakers have established a tradition. Among them the former British minister of Foreign Affairs Lord Peter Carrington, former Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia Richard Goldstone, former Irish President Mary Robinson, former NATO-secretary Javier Solana and president of the European Council Herman van Rompuy.

The Board of Support of the Europe Lecture Foundation is an international network of authorities and provides advice and guidance pertaining the organisation of the Europe Lecture.
