On Monday, 9 March Netherlands Atlantic Youth, the Netherlands Atlantic Association and the Atlantic Treaty Association, with support from NATO, organized a conference in Press Centre 'Nieuwspoort' in The Hague entitled: Women, Peace and Security: 15 Years of Implementation of UNSCR 1325.
Speakers included Ms. Marriët Schuurman (NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative on Women, Peace and Security), Ms. Catherine Poulton (International Rescue Committee), Ms. Ted Strop-Von Meijenfeldt (Platform Women and Sustainable Peace), Ms. Magdalena Kirchner (Women in International Security Germany), Ms. Sophie Kesselaar (WO=MEN), Mr. Joris Geeven (Coordinator Women, Peace and Security, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Ms. Maria Mundt (Atlantic Treaty Association) and Ms. Rowinda Appelman (Atlantic Youth)

During this conference, the speakers discussed the successes and obstacles incurred during 15 years of implementation of UNSCR 1325 – dealing with the role of women in peace and security – and provide a review of the gender gap in high-priority areas within the field of security and defense. They also raised questions and gave advice to the NATO special representative on how to ensure that cooperation between the military, governmental institutions, NGOs and members of the civil society, would strengthen the implementation of 1325.
