Biography

Marietje Schaake is a Member of the European Parliament. She serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, focusing on neighborhood policy; human rights, specifically freedom of expression, internet freedom, press freedom; and Iran. In the Committee on Culture, Media, Education, Youth and Sports she works on Europe's Digital Agenda and on culture in the EU´s external actions. In the Committee on International Trade she focuses on transatlantic cooperation, intellectual property rights and the free flow of information.

Presentation: Security and freedoms in a digital, connected world

Ms Schaake will focus on the geopolitical aspects of balancing digital freedoms and security in a hyper-connected and borderless world. She will assess the changing role that governments and businesses should play in protecting and improving critical ICT infrastructures as well as the fundamental rights of the people using them. The legal and political challenges around jurisdiction and the internet are aspects that need to be considered besides practical and technical solutions.

Peut-être faudrait-il contacter Mme Schaake afin de lui demander de nous aider à mieux définir les différents acteurs de l'Internet. En particulier, le qui est responsable de quoi? Et surtout du qui est responsable de quoi dans la diffusion du hate speech et des messages à caractère haineux destinés à la jeunesse. En effet, comment est-il possible que des jeunes puissent être aussi facilement distraits et exposés à des messages dont le contenu ne peut que susciter l'interrogation. Nous amener à nous poser la question: qui est responsable au niveau gouvernemental de la protection de la jeunesse? Qui surveille l'Internet et sa moralité? Qui se préoccupe de la jeunesse et de ce qu'elle fait derrière l'ordinateur? J'écris cela en connaissance de cause, étant personnellement en prise avec un certain laisser-faire en matière informatique dans l'enseignement. Il est bien trop facile de demander aux familles de se connecter pour ensuite ne plus s'occuper du qui fait quoi, combien de temps, où et comment? Le laisser-aller a ses limites. Mais qui contacter pour demander des explications? Les ministères de l'éducation, de la justice&sécurité, des affaires économiques, le Raad van Onderwijs? Le VVD?
