DIGITALEUROPE’s Trade Group Welcomes Eddy Hartog

Digital Agenda for Europe and international affairs hot topics for discussion during an interactive session on trade with DG Connect’s Eddy Hartog.
DIGITALEUROPE’s Trade Group met on 12 July. The focal point on the agenda was the visit of Eddy Hartog, Head of the International Relations unit, and his colleague Silvia Viceconte, International Relations Officer in DG Connect (Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology).
The Commission presented the latest developments in the delivery of the international goals of the Digital Agenda for Europe. The International Agenda focuses on: neighbouring countries, developed economies like US and Japan and developing economies including the BRICs. Hartog explained that DG Connect works actively to engage with those partners in the Policy Dialogues and Economic Cooperation on Information Society.
Hartog set out DG Connect’s plan to improve its international engagement. He described the plan’s three elements: a clear geographical focus, an even stronger link with principles of the Digital Agenda for Europe and an enhanced role for stakeholders. The European Commission’s willingness to improve industry engagement in the programme was of particular interest to members. DIGITALEUROPE is looking forward to this re-energised co-operation.
DIGITALEUROPE commended DG Connect on the restoration of discussions with India and the importance of the role their delegation played in New Delhi (March 2012), as well as impending visit to foster cooperation with Japan planned for the autumn. DIGITALEUROPE members took the opportunity to highlight the importance of maintaining open dialogue with the Chinese Government. Welcoming industries views, Hartog indicated that there may be an opportunity for industry engagement in the next round of talks.
DIGITALEUROPE was pleased to hear that DG Connect remains engaged in issues relating to the multilateral arena. In particular, the promotion of the expansion of the Information Technology Agreement remains a shared goal between Commission and DIGITALEUROPE. In addition, DIGITALEUROPE applauds DG Connect’s strong interest in the WCIT process.

Et où est madame Beatrice de Graaf selon Bert Wagendorp dans cette histoire? Dans les relations internationales bien comprises par les Hollandaises.
Quand on n'a rien compris auX affaires familiales et à la protection de la jeunesse, des enfants, des familles face auX produits litigieuX et auX contenus litigieuX, on se demande ce que l'on fait à la gouvernance de l'Internet. Une autre équipe serait peut-être souhaitable, une autre perspective peut-être que les D66 et VVD et autres réunis. Ne manque-t-il pas une perspective un peu oubliée? On revient à l'historien hollandais W.J.F. Nuyens (1823-1894) au XIXème siècle. Quelles valeurs ont été oubliées par monsieur van Baalen par eXemple ou madame Schaake et autres collègues?
