The European Cultural Foundation (CEF) initiates and supports cultural exchange and creative expression across wider Europe. We do this because culture inspires, empowers and engages people to contribute to democratic societies.

Beyond 2012: reclaiming democracy

There has also been a growing gap between people and democratic structures in recent years. ECF has seen and supported hundreds of organisations that believe culture is an invaluable tool for engaging people in the future of their communities, and the world.

ECF seeks to bridge the gap by connecting a network of local cultural change-makers . This will enable the emergence of a European-wide community of practice that is reclaiming public space through culture, building communites from the bottom up, and re-invigorating democracy. By working with partners and organisations within and outside the cultural sector, we will help to scale up these actions, thus extending the reach of our activities and to broaden our funding base.
